LESS is MORE

LESS is MORE, is actually a phrase from the 1855 poem Andrea del Sarto (the faultless painter) by Robert Browning. This is a very common design principle that artists and designers used most of the time to produce their artwork. In another word,we call it as minimalism design. A minimalist design can achieve a beautiful result that provide a strong impression to the audience.

Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is stripped down to its most fundamental features. Simple artwork allow people to focus on the message the designer wish to deliver to the designers and focus on the content to the forefront and minimizes distractions.Artwork that uses too many of elements and all cramped together is very messy and distracting.

The beauty of minimal design work exists in what cannot be seen, rather than what is visually obvious. The work is presented in its most fundamental and basic foundation, only exposing whatever necessary elements are used. It is unfettered, minus using any layering or multiple design elements in the work that exposes its natural beauty. It can be creatively challenging to use minimalist elements in any work, but therein is the beauty of it! The more creative the design is, and the fewer elements that are used in the work, is what makes it attractive, appealing and stunningly impressive.

When we mention minimalism, " all-white designs, empty rooms or designs that hardly consist of anything to the point that people find it pointless or boring * is what occur to most people in their mind. But, in truth minimalism is much more than that. Minimalism is “designat(ing) anything which is spare or stripped to its essentials.” It is “… subtracting the obvious, and adding the meaningful” as John Maeda puts it.

Below are some of the successful minimalist design advertisements:

Creative Packaging

We as a customer love to see beautiful things that attract our eye, some companies that are smart know the trick as well,so they package their product in a creative way that can 'wow' the customers and "make" the customers spend money on their product.(of course, what i mean is not by force!)

Creative Packaging

With the color, look, feel and touch of real fruit skin these creative juice boxes by Naoto Fukasawa not only closely reflect what is being marketed but also provide a more-than-just-visual sense experience – extending beyond normal industrial design parameters.

The End of History by BrewDog

Scottish brewery, BrewDog have packaged their latest range of beers inside dead animals.

Well, this is definitely a new thing, never actually come across with this sort of packaging before, but whether it is in a good creative packaging or a bad creative packaging, it is for YOU to decide!

Play with Metaphor in Visual-driven ads

Visual-driven ads have done very well with metaphor. Here’s one lovely example, part of a campaign for Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones done by Bagby and Company, Chicago:

By directly equating a noisy child with a loudspeaker, the ad demonstrates Sony’s empathy with modern travelers, and thus predisposes those travelers to trust Sony’s solution over the competition’s.

But metaphor can just as easily live in words. Here’s a great metaphorical headline, produced by Martin/Williams, Minneapolis for L.L. Bean’s dog beds:

Another example, from Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis for Harley-Davidson:

Crispin & Porter produced this wonderfully minimalist campaign for a homeless mission in Miami:

And the Martin Agency in Richmond used metaphor to celebrate John F. Kennedy’s role in putting the first man on the moon:

Awesome Architecture:"SHELL HOUSE" by Kotaro Ide

Deep within the mystic woods of Karuizawa, Japan, you find the “SHELL HOUSE”, an architectural wonder created by Kotaro Ide.

The 'shell house' by architect kotaro ide, is a sculptural shell-like structure which has been built in the woods of karuizawa, located in the nagano prefecture of japan. the house is meant to function as a vacation home, which is able to withstand the humid summers and cold winters of the region. to accomplish this, ide opted not to use the typical wood structure of villas in the area because of their susceptibility to decay easily. Instead, he used reinforced concrete to construct two elliptical shell forms which are supposed to represent a conch.

From its profile, 'shell house' takes on a j-shape which is raised above the ground by 1400 mm resulting in the 'floating' masses. Ulin wood is used to create terraces around the home with a courtyard into the centre of the main living areas. the villa's simple aesthetic lends itself well to the traditional japanese landscape, creating a balance between the futuristic man-made structure and the environment which surrounds it.

The J-shape profile of the SHELL HOUSE.

The concrete structure creates a continuous line from building to courtyard.(i personally adore the sleek white line.)

A view of the spiraling central courtyard which sits between the two elliptical masses.

A view of the serene forest which surrounds the home.(The beautiful nature in which man-made and natural environments can blend together to form breathtaking habitats, such an amazing GREEN building.)

the extruded conch shell form has windows on each end, providing panoramic views of the scenery which surrounds it .

skylights allow natural light to flow through the interior from above.

The entire project took more than 18 months to realize and two and a half years to complete. What an awesome building!!!
